Holly Jolly Holiday Cards

With the holidays quickly approaching it’s time to start thinking about your holiday cards. Last year we discussed “Crafting The Perfect Christmas Card” that you can reference if you’re in need of design and format ideas, but this year we wanted to give a few quick tips to make your holiday card stand out on your friends’ and families’ mantle.

Do: Start Early This Year

The holiday season can be stressful, but sending out holiday cards should be a fun and enjoyable experience. By starting a little earlier this year and finalizing your design and message now, it should help relieve some of that stress. Your holiday cards should be printed and ready to go so that when the long Thanksgiving weekend comes around you have time to sit, relax, and write your personal messages to friends and family.

Don’t: Send Out Holiday Cards Too Late

This sounds obvious but holiday cards should arrive before the holidays are over. During the holidays it’s understandable that time gets away from all of us. You should also take into consideration that the holidays are the busiest time of year for the post office, and your card could arrive later than anticipated. Most people that receive holiday cards enjoy displaying them for the holidays so don’t procrastinate! Mail out your cards with time to spare.

Do: Add a Personal Touch

While it might be a good idea to have a more generic message for coworkers and acquaintances, family and close friends will enjoy a more personal touch. Add a short handwritten message to your cards tailored to whomever is receiving it.

Don’t: Get Too Personal

You should want to spread joy during the holiday season. Start by leaving out the bad news and politics. Holiday cards are supposed to send holiday joy to the recipient, so keep messages positive and in the spirit of the season. Likewise, don’t brag or gloat. A holiday card isn’t the place to tell friends and family how this year hasn’t been the best. When in doubt, keep it simple.

Do: Proofread

Make your list and check it twice. Give every card a read through to ensure accuracy. Even more important is the accuracy of the envelope. Double check names and addresses to make sure your cards reach their intended recipient!
